PLANNING THE SITE

The design process is simple: homes should form a setting for activity spaces, be it gathering areas, edible gardens, or natural enclaves. Homes should reinforce circulation systems–streets, pathways, and sometimes even streams. Porches and dooryards should be located to provide outdoor living spaces that transition the zone between community space and private interior space. Local culture and passive orientation should influence the design. In essence, homes are clustered, an old and time–tested model that, today, fosters a frugal use of land and creates community spaces. The character of the land is preserved through careful sculpting of the topography and the restoration of native species of plants. Cars are always de-emphasized.

BUILDING DESIGN

Lew Oliver Nest™ designs are well–proportioned, simply detailed, and celebrate the landscape. They put forward a new design imperative — to breathe new life into ancient building traditions while meeting the needs of modern life. They interact with the climate—the angle of the sun, prevailing winds, and natural breezes. Living areas are open to outdoor social spaces. Renewable resources harvested from the land are utilized. Eco–design never looked so good!

INTERIORS

Our interiors emphasize the qualities of simplicity, lightness, and livability. We use real materials, new or reclaimed. We pay attention to every detail—from square–cut trim pieces to hardwood floors. Living areas combine rustic and refined textures, and are both distinctive and casually comfortable. Open spaces are light–filled. Kitchens are not only very modern, but serve as gathering places. Bedrooms are retreats with well appointed baths. We create optimal forms for contemporary living. The creative attitude of these spaces invites your personal imprint.
