… and big-box strip centers have replaced the true community with soul-less auto-oriented sprawl.

We lament the loss of the native landscape; architecture of beauty and permanence; and the absence of meaningful culture. With the heavy-handed cut-and-fill method of development, the end product is cancerous destruction of real community.

With the petro-crisis now at hand, it is essential to begin modeling utopian villages, designing neighborhood centers scaled for the pedestrians, and road systems that accommodate bicycles, low-speed electric motor vehicles, and other healthy options. The disposable architecture of the late 20th century must be reinvented for efficiency, durability, and beauty.
